Omer Karakurt as the third player in the next round

BURSA - The artistic billiard player Serdar Gumus, with a world title and a European title to his name, took a chance in this discipline on the first day of the three cushion World Cup in Bursa. The Turkish player will not return to the arena tomorrow (Tuesday) after a draw and a loss in his group matches. He finished third and was eliminated on the first day.

Fifteen Turks did survive the opening round, together with the German Ismail Inal, who slipped into the next round with three match points and 0.659. Ilbay Dagdelen and Muammer Rahmet finished on top with four points and 1.276, followed by Omer Karakurt, the European junior champion of 2013.

The first day at the Ataturk Congress Culture Centre didn't show many spectacular matches. Hamit Akkaya played the best match with 30 in 18 innings. In his first encounter, with Koray Kirman, he needed 40 innings to finish.

There will be more excitement and quality in tomorrow's groups, including the young Korean Myung Woo Cho, Hakan Incekara and the German Master Dustin Jäschke. A very interesting group is the one with the young players Omer Karakurt and Dutchman Raymon Groot, playing with the European silver lady Gülsen Degener.
