Pan American gold goes to Peru team

LIMA - The Peruvian players Christopher Tevez and Jose Torreblanca have surprisingly conquered the team title at the Pan American championships. The Peru B team defeated the US with Young Gull Lee and Miguel Torres in the final. Two Colombian teams, which were among the favorites, were eliminated in the quarters and the group stage. The championship was played at Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru.

Christopher Tevez, who also made a strong impression in the individual tournament, got the better of Young Gull Lee in the final and Jose Torreblanca surprised against Miguel Torres with a victory: 30-18 in 18. The winners played 1.007 average in the final.

Javier Teran and Luis Aveiga were the top team with Ecuador on average (1.226), but they were outplayed by the later winners in the semi-finals. Luis Aveiga although defeated Jose Torreblanca 30-27 (19), but by carom difference (Christopher Tevez beat Javier Teran 30-22 in 31), Peru B qualified for the final.

The other semifinal was between USA and Peru A, with Ramon Rodriguez and Guido Sacco among the title favorites. Rodriguez topped his opponent Young Gull Lee (30-25 in 31), but Miguel Torres saved the USA team by defeating Guido Sacco 30-22 in 24.

In the quarterfinals Peru B bested Colombia B with Henry Diaz and John Martinez, Peru A defeated Ecuador B, Ecuadro A struck against Costa Rica (Erick Tellez defeated Javier Teran) and USA won the match against Ecuador C.
In total, eighteen teams came to the start line, divided into six groups of three. The group winners and two best runners up advanced to the quarterfinals.
