Pan American title at stake in Peru

LIMA - The Peruvian billiards federation, with its great champion Ramón Rodriguez, is hosting the qualifications and the main tournament of the Pan American championships from 23 to 28 August. The tournament hall is El Olivar in Lima, Peru where the seniors, juniors and teams battle for the titles. The organization is in hands of the Federación Peruana de Billar.

At the Pan American championship the points for the ranking are at stake to earn the tickets for the World championship in Bordeaux (France) in December, the World championship for juniors in Guri (Korea) and World championship for national teams in 2016.

The Colombian Henry Diaz, current Pan American champion, doesn’t know whether he can defend his gold medal in Lima because of Colombia’s financial problems regarding the organization of the Pan American championships by Colombia in 2014. The FECOBI (Colombian Federation) couldn’t comply with the financial conditions for the organization in Medellin.

Henry Diaz is the defending titleholder but not sure to participate.

Jorge Franco, the new president of the Colombian federation, said he is negotiating for a solution and give entrance to the Colombian players at the Pan Americans pool in Argentina in July and three cushion in Peru in August.

Who can play the qualifications?

All players who are members of a federation and pay the regular registration fee. Fabian Serrano is the director of the championship.

Who can participate in the main event?

All federations are entitled to four places, with the exception of the host country, which is assured of eight places.

The main tournament is played with 64 players, the group stage to 30 caroms from the last sixteen to 40 caroms.
