Raimond Burgman attacks to win in second part of his match against Frédéric Caudron

KWADENDAMME - Both Partycentrum Osdorp and STZ Zundert, numbers two and three in the Eredivisie table, had do or die matches in the 14th round. The Amsterdam team had almost lost a valauble point in Kwadendamme, but Ronny Daniels failed to make his last point against Frans van Kuyk. The match against Landswelvaren ended in the smallest possible win (5-3), thanks to Sander Jonen grinding out a draw with Jeffrey van Nijnatten (45-45 in 76 innings) and Frans van Kuyk narrowly winning 50-49 in 41.

Jens van Dam won for the home team, beating Dick van Uum by a margin (45-31 in 36) and Eddy Merckx sealed the 5-3 for Osdorp by beating Francis Forton 50-43 in 35.

STZ from Zundert, ranked as high as Partycentrum but no less than eight points behind leader Dallinga-Frans Bevers, had an only slightly more comfortable win against Biljartcafé Jorissen in The Hague, but front men Roland Forthomme and Peter Ceulemans still had to make up a 3-1 deficit after the break. Raimond Groot drew with Herman van Daalen (45-45 in 55) and Barry van Beers, who had shown excellent form in the past weeks, had a lesser day when he faced Jeffrey Jorissen. The home player won 45-38 in 37 innings.

Roland Forthomme needed a tough fight at the end to beat Jean van Erp. ,,I didn't play really good at all, becaue I couldn't adapt to the table'', said Van Erp. ,,Still I had a good chance to win, when I was leading 42-39 and made a big mistake. Roland answered with a lucky shot and made 4, in the next inning he took the win with a closing run of 5: (50-43 in 42).''

The considerable - and decisive - margin was found it the match between both Ceulemansen. Peter, the grandson, beat his major inspiration Raymond, the grandpa, 50-28 in 24 innings.

This kept the two chasing teams in the trail of Dallinga-Frans Bevers, that beat A1 Biljarts 6-2. The most interesting result there was the centre court match between Raimond Burgman and Frédéric Caudron, the former beating the latter 50-40 in 29 innings.

The man from Heemstede pulled away after halftime, when Caudron still had a 26-22 in 22 lead. Running 13 and 7 consecutively, Burgman took a 42-26 lead, and ended the match five innings later. It was inconsequential, because Dallinga had a 6-0 lead already, thanks to wins by Eddy Leppens over Martien van der Spoel (26 innings), Jean Paul de Bruijn over Henk Blauwblomme (in 42) and Glenn Hofman over Addy Wienk (in 32).

Stefan Galla played the best match of the competition round, when Holland Mineraal met Aardexpress: the German beat Rene Wijnen 50-10 in 21 innings. Lochem recorded a 7-1 win. Stefan Galla was leading Wijnen 26-7 in 13, and needed just eight more innings for the remaining 24 points. Galla's run of 9 was also the best run in Lochem.

First board players Anno de Kleine and Arie Weijenburg played a topsy-turvy match. After 26 innings, Weijenburg had a comfortable lead: 18-35, but from there on, it was De Kleine's match. The man from Helmond squared matters in four innings, with runs of 5,5,4 and 6. After 35 innings he had a 44-39 lead, Weijenburg then ran 5, but it was still De Kleine who had the final word after 42 innings, winning 50-46.

Capelle De Terp stayed in the top 4 with a win over Van Wanrooij. Richard Bitalis was helped by Frank Martens, who had started by making 33 in his first 12 innings, but then saw the wheels come off when he added only 8 more in the next 30 innings. Bitalis finished the match with a run of 12. Martin Spoormans trailed 25-23 after 15 innings against Kurt Ceulemans, but he played a much better second half: 50-35 in 36.
