Piedrabuena waits a big Colombian battle

Pedro Piedrabuena is the title holder in the Pan Americans

MEDELLIN - The Pan American championships in the game type three cushion, with players from eleven countries, starts with the preliminaries for the individual tournament today (Tuesday) in Medellin. The American Pedro Piedrabuena is the title holder, the main tournament starts on Thursday. Piedrabuena won the championship for the second time last year and defeated in the final rounds with eight (seven Colombians) successively Alexander Lopera, Arley Galeano, Carlos Campino, Cesar Garzon and in the final Huberney Catano. The American winner played in the tournament a record average 1.687 and earned 1240 dollars.

The tournament is not only important to win the Pan American title, also for the tickets to participate in the World championship in Korea.

Sixteen Groups of three players, who meet in matches to 30 caroms, play in the first qualifying rounds. The matches will be broadcast live on Kozoom.

The Colombians are by far in the majority in the preliminary rounds. The organizing country shows up with eight wild card players for the main tournament and 41 players in the qualifications. The other participating countries are Ecuador, Peru, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Argeninie, United States and Panama.

The main event will start on Thursday with 48 players in knock-out matches to 40 caroms. The tournament will be preceded in the preliminaries by a minute of silence for Colombian player Carloman Ortiz who suddenly passed away this year.

For the main tournament will qualify:

Alexander Salazar, Heriberto Aristizabal, Luis Martinez (Colombian champion), Pedro Gonzales (Colombian number 1), Huberney Catano, Gabriel Vasquez, Henry Diaz and Carlos Campino.

Chile: Marco Sobarzo.
