SAINT MAUR - The young Frenchman Pierre Soumagne, an expert in the balk-line games, had already shown his progress in three cushion by winning a Grand Prix in Laxou in 2011. This weekend he won his second national ranking tournament in Saint Maur, where Soumagne defeated Jérôme Barbeillon by one carom: 40-39 in 40 innings.

Both players opted for a tactical final match, with many defensive playing. Barbeillon was leading 12-3 in eleven innings, then Soumagne repaired the balance to 12-12.

The ' Laxovien' ran out to 23-17, before Barbeillon took a 32-23 in a strong phase. The young Soumagne had the best final sprint. He finished the match at 40-36. Barbeillon scored three in the equalizer, missing his last carom.

The 26-year-old Pierre Soumagne (1.273 general) scooped victory with a great conviction and defeated in the final the player who outplayed the favorite Jérémy Bury in the semifinals.

Pierre Soumagne commented: ,,Two , three years ago, maybe I have played even 0.500 in these kind of matches. I manage now to still play a good average in minor matches and I use my opportunities to make points that I should not miss.’’

40-29 in 31 against Gwendal Marshal: 1.290.
40-16 in 27 vs Jacques Bonnet: 1.481.
40-36 in 25 vs Jean Reverchon in quarter final: 1.600.
40-34 in 35 against Cédric Melnytschenko in the semifinals: 1.143.
40-39 in 40 against Jérôme Barbeillon in final: 1.000.

Jérôme Barbeillon, the losing finalist with 1.052 general, has already won three national tournaments in the past. He played his most notable match in Saint Maur against Jérémy Bury, whom he defeated 40-25 in 26 innings.

Jérémy Bury played 1.306 overall with a high run of fourteen. He was the winner of five of the last six tournaments in France and played in the same venue last year a record average of 2,083 .
