Nikos Polychronopoulos had a superb final sprint and beat Eddy Merckx 40-39 with a run of nine to the finish

KREFELD - The leader in the German league, the team of Ravensburger BC, returned from the away match against Krefeld with a 7-1 victory. The two Turks, Tayfun Tasdemir and Murat Naci Coklu, took three out of seven points. Klaus Bosel and Murat Gökman recorded the maximum win for the team. Bergisch Gladbacher kept the one-point-gap thanks to the 6-2 victory against Velbert. BCC Witten defeated Elversberg 6-2 and is still third in the ranking.

The most spectacular match on this day was the encounter between Eddy Merckx (Velbert) and Nikos Polychronopoulos (Bergisch). The Belgian seemed to take the win when he led 39-31, but his Greek opponent, who doesn't show his best form in recent international tournaments, had a great final sprint. He finished off with a final run of nine.

Martin Horn played (with Eddy Leppens and Ronny Lindemann) played the best game of the day: the German defeated Henk Habraken 40-27 in eighteen innings. Dave Christiani took the third win for Begisch against Torsten Anders 40-37 in 35 innings.

Tayfun Tasdemir bested his opponent Thorsten Frings 40-22 in 22 innings, Belgian Dirk Weeremans took a draw from the match against Murat Naci Coklu: 40-40 in 30 innings.

Eddy Leppens was the best man in the match between BCC Witten and Elversberg against Jef Philipoom, which he won 40-19 in 18. Jacob Haack Sorensen defeated Michael Nilsson 40-30 (30) and Ronny Lindemann showed a blistering form as well against Hans Jürgen Kuhl: 40-20 in 18.

BF Sterkrade was too strong for Munich at home 6-2: Jean van Erp, who celebrated his birthday, was the only loser for the home team: 40-34 vs Michael Puse in 27. GT Buer defeated Bottroper 5-3, climbing over its opponent to the fourth position.
Tomorrow, Sunday, BCC Witten plays the topmatch against Bergisch Gladbach, the match that will show which of the two is the main rival for Ravensburger.
