PORTO - The match between Dani Sánchez and Roland Forthomme, the two top players of FC Porto and BC Andernos, was the highlight in the meeting in group C which was played in Porto this weekend. The Spaniard and the Belgium showed there class in a great match: Sánchez, the world champion, won 2-1, Forthomme marked his loss with the highest average: 2.000 against 1.944 for Sánchez. Forthomme had a very strong weekend: in his match against Andreas Horvath he played an average of 2.500.

The French team had to bow for his opponent at the end of the preliminary round in Group C. FC Porto won the deciding match even with a maximum score: 8-0. Sánchez only lost the second set against Forthomme (won by the Belgium with 15 in three innings), Semih Sayginer defeated Peter de Backer 2-1 (averages 1.294 and 0.909). Paolo Andrade was a bit too strong for Francis Connesson in a very moderate match and Manuel Rui Costa shared the joy of his team by beating Marc Boigneres 2-0.

FC Porto's 8-0 victory was enough to win the group. BC Elite Wien couldn't play a significant role and lost to both opponents. The Turkish team of Zeitinburnu was one of three teams which did not appear in the preliminaries.
