Tayfun Tasdemir falls into the arms of his teammate Adnan Yüksel after the winning point

VIERSEN - The climax of the evening was the Scotch Double match between the teams of Germany and Turkey. The Belgians, the Dutch and the Koreans had already reached the quarterfinals of the World championship for national teams in Viersen. The new phenomenon Scotch Double sent the audience in the Festhalle into rapture. The German home crowd cheered up its favourites with bells and whistles, but the decisive battle finished with a Turkish victory.

Tayfun Tasdemir and Adnan Yüksel took a 7-0 lead and some innings later on a match point (14-3). But when Yüksel missed, the Germans took the unexpected opportunity. Martin Horn and Christian Rudolph even closed the gap to one single point, but missed on two from the finish. The second match point at 14-3 was used by Tasdemir, who ran into the arms of his teammate.

The Dutch Dick Jaspers and Barry van Beers defeated Denmark after an exciting fight. The start was pretty exciting: Jaspers started in his match against Tonny Carlsen with an opening run of fifteen.

The Dane, who sailed many seas and still is a fantastic player with his blistering quick stroke, came back into the match. Barry van Beers faced after the start versus the Danish champion Brian Zola Hansen a backlog (18-8), but then showed his mental strength in the final phase. He finished the match with a five-run and an amazing last shot (40-36 in 27 innings). Jaspers still had to beat Carlsen to avoid the Scotch Double. When he did after another thrilling final last phase (40-38 in 21), the jump-off was no longer needed.

Eddy Merckx levelled the match against Dani Sánchez with two points from the equalizer

In the other quarterfinal Korea A won its match against Korean B, again with strong performances by Jae Ho Cho (40 in 20) and Jung-Han Heo (40 in 10). The Belgians, who defend the title on Sunday, defeated Spain with the admirable Frédéric Caudron, who finished off with sixteen against Ruben Legázpi (40-20 in 15) and Eddy Merckx who tied with Dani Sánchez with two points from the spots (40-40 in 27).

Frédéric Caudron, a finish with sixteen and a world class average.

Mainly Frédéric Caudron showed that he is in an extreme good form and maybe is playing one of the best tournaments in his career so far: two matches in the preliminaries with 2.758 overall, now in the quarterfinals 2.667 average.

The semi-finals, that have been changed in the early hours of the final day by the sportsleader, are:
