DOETINCHEM/ROSMALEN/HAARLO - Those who wanted to see a demonstration of wonderful one cushion playing on a Saturday afternoon, had to travel to De Veemarkt in Doetinchem or De Hazelaar in Rosmalen. Jean Paul de Bruijn and Frédéric Caudron, the world class specialists in this discipline, showed their fantastic skills for their teams in the top team competition.

De Bruijn (Etikon) took his match over 100 caroms against Robby Sonck in three and two innings, making 100 points in the second inning of his second match. And also worth noting: Robby Sonck made 69 in the equalizer.

Frédéric Caudron was almost on the same level for his team A1 Biljarts. The Belgian defeated his compatriot Francis Forton twice with a big margin: 100-7 in two innings (a final run of 85) and 100-12 in six innings.

A1 Biljarts/De Veemarkt treated its home crowd to a double 6-0 victory over 's Landswelvaren, because Raymund Swertz beat his opponent Peter de Bree in balkline 71/2 twice (150-120 in 11, 150-39 in six) and Michel van Silfhout controlled his match against Gert-Jan Veldhuizen in 47/2 in thirteen and two innings.

The leader thus remained unbeaten, like the team of 't Ottertje also showed itself superior against Dibo-the City. Etikon had some troubles to stay on track and Topteam Berkelland lost two precious match points. Patrick Niessen (Etikon) apparently is not in his best form for the moment and Eddy Leppens (Berkelland) suffers a weak period.

Etikon escaped with two wins against Egbersbeek.nl/Biljartcentrum Arnhem: twice 4-2. De Bruijn was the showmaster on the party, Niessen still can't find the perfect feeling on the tables at De Hazelaar (two losses against Martijn Egbers) and eventually, Ferry Jong had to take the full win for Etikon.

The young North Dutchman needed a hard fight to do that in his second match against Harrie van den Boogaard. The spectators moved to the edge of the chair in the closing part when it came to a do-or-die phase. Ferry Jong gathered his last fourteen caroms in all corners of the billiards and finished on character from 189-186, bringing his team to a 4-2 victory. ,,We frankly were a little bit lucky'', agreed team leader Bennie Deegens.

Topteam Berkelland took its first encounter against Benelux Billiards 4-2 (Roij of Raaij, the best of the day and Marek Faus won in four and six innings), but Leppens showed already his vulnerability in his first appearance against Wiel van Gemert: 100-86 loss in forteen.

In the second match, Roij of Raaij defeated Guido Kauffeld (200-1 in 1), but Faus and Leppens failed. The Czech lost the balkline 71/2 to Demi Pattiruhu (sparkling with a run of 109) 150-95 in 4. Leppens suffered a blackout, like two weeks ago against his countryman Forton: 100-21 loss in twelve innings, which is a score that Leppens usually plays in three cushion.

Horna De Vries Juweliers and BIOS Blitz remained in balance with 4-2 and 2-4. Sam van Etten won both his matches for Horna in the double encounter with Peter Volleberg, Fabian Blondeel beat George Kentner, including a close 100-96.
