The Egyptian Farouk Barki, one of the organizers in Hurghada, will certainly know him. Ad Koorevaar is not only an unpredictable top player, he also sings at weddings, parties and is an entertainer on the dancefloors. But for now the Sunrise Garden Beach in the late evening hours must not count on a lively party with the Dutchman in the lead.

For Ad Koorevaar this evening played at the top of his game against Francis Forton, in the match which was decisive for the next round. The Dutchman needed earlier on the day some luck against Arnim Kahofer. The Austrian missed two matchballs. But against his Belgian opponent Koorevaar won on his pure class with 2-0 and a superb average of 1.764.

Two winning sets bring Koorevaar to the next round, in which tomorrow the final qualifying for the main tournament is played. Ad Koorevaar, who plays in the Netherlands in the champion team with Dick Jaspers, Torbjörn Blomdahl, Martin Horn and Jean van Erp, must still survive one group to participate in the main tournament. And otherwise, Mr. Farouk Barki, if he doesn't play in the weekend, he undoubtedly will create atmosphere at the closing banquet.

With the victory of Koorevaar at the same time came an end to the tournament Francis Forton. The little man from Brussels certainly had expected something else after his glorious performance last week in the VES tournament in St. Niklaas. Forton there finished a match of forty points against Johan Loncelle in ten innings, only two innings more than the world record.

The Dutchman Wim van Cromvoirt could not give the tournament after his promising start a good follow up. He was defeated by Ronny Lindemann, the German revelation of the tournament so far, who won 15-6 and 15-11, again with a high average: 1.200.
