The DBC Bochum title defender in the Europe Cup final classic games

BOCHUM - The German club DBC Bochum, with its great palmares as a team in the classic disciplines, is the organizer of the European Cup in classic game types this weekend (20-22 April). The home team with the Dutchman Sam van Etten and the Germans Thomas Nockemann and Ludger Havlik defends the title that the team won in Prague last year. The European victory in the final against Ronchin was the biggest success in the 92-year club history.

In the euphoria of success, the DBC Bochum developed the idea of making the European Cup to a big billiard party. The image of the sport in the Ruhr region deserves a new impulse. The result of almost one year of preparation is impressive: during the three-day tournament a whole series of sporting and cultural events are programmed. The location is the Bochumer Rundhalle, a multidisciplinary hall. There, among other things, all schools from the city are invited to get acquainted with the billiard sport, promotional activities are organized and there is a rock evening for young people.

The most famous and successful DBC Bochum player is undoubtedly Fabian Blondeel, the father of the billiard sons Simon and Lukas, who is now chairman of DBC Bochum and one of the driving forces behind the Europe Cup organization.

Six teams compete for the title. The home-playing Bochum is divided into a group with the French teams Oissel and Chartres. In Group B, the Spanish Vic also plays against two French opponents: Douarnenez and Ronchin.

The Germans are among the favourites again with Sam van Etten, Thomas Nockemann and Ludger Havlik. The French team Oissel plays with Pierre Martory, Benedict Deziles-Legros and Johann Petit. For the Chartres team come to the tables Willy Gérimont, Xavier Gretillat and Jacky Justice. The Spanish team Vic starts in the other group with Raul Cuenca, Esteve Mata and Joan Espinasa. Ronchin's line-up is Jean-François Florent Brahim Djoubri and Bernard Villiers and Douarnenez enters the stage with Raymond Swertz, Pierre Soumagne and Gregory le Deventec.
