Six World Cups on calendar for 2016

The beautiful city of La Baule hosting its first World Cup

MADRID/CAIRO - The international UMB calendar has already been thronged with a lot of World Cups and other tournaments for 2016. The sports committee, headed by Mr Farouk Barki, has officially launched six World Cups on the calendar. The first tournament is in Bursa, Turkey, the traditional closing in Hurghada.

Not only the World championship will be hosted in France for two years (2015, 2016 in Bordeaux), Joel Switala also announced the World Cup in La Baule for 2016. The tournament, on the south coast of Brittany, is scheduled from 24 to 30 October.

Four World Cups, which were also on the calendar this year, return next year: Luxor, Hochiminh, Guri and Hurghada. The tournament in Bursa, Turkey will take the place instead of Istanbul and is located 160 kilometers from Istanbul in the Marmara region.

The European federation CEB has found a definite date for the European Cup (Coupe d'Europe) for club teams. FC Porto is the organizer from 2 to June 5th. The World Cup of Porto is not yet on the calendar, but a date has been reserved from 18th to 24th July.

The UMB calendar kicks off with the General Assembly and the UMB Congres in Caïro on January 16. Besides the World Cups, the World championship for national teams is in Viersen from 18-21 February, the Super Cup and Player of the Year gala in Antwerp on March 5, the women World championship in Guri from 2-4 September, and the Lausanne invitational tournament from 2-4 December. The date for the World championships in Bordeaux will be announced later.

The preliminary World Cup cycle for 2016:

1-7 february: Bursa (Turkey)
March 27-April 2: Luxor (Egypt)
16-22 of May: Hochiminh (Vietnam)
5 to 11 September: Guri (Korea)
24 to 30 October: La Baule (France)
11-17 December, Hurghada (Egypt).
