Spanish title goes to Legazpi's and Madrid

Rubén Legazpi won the Spanish title with his Madrid team

PALMA DE MALLORCA - The selection team of Madrid has won the Spanish championship for regional teams. Three Legazpi's (Rubén, Alfonso, Adrián and Ruben Fernandez defeated the reigning champion Catalonia in the finals 8-0. Three games ended in a win for Madrid, Ruben Legazpi and Sergio Jimenez stopped their match at 34-31 when the decision was made.

The Catalan team missed its leading player Dani Sánchez and was therefore not on his best in the final. The tournament was played in the Palma Arena, a sports center in Palma de Mallorca.

The two finalists were the winners of the group stages which were played with a total of seven teams. The Madrid team beat Murcia, Andalucia and Extremadura. The Catalans remained unbeaten in their duels with Baleares and Mancha.

Sergio Jimenez recorded the best match in the preliminaries with 40 in 15 innings. Juan David Zapata was on average with 1.519 individual the best of 29 players in the tournament.

 

The results in the final match were:

Ruben Legazpi - Sergio Jimenez 34-31 (27),

Alfonso Legazpi - Xavier Yeste (40-25 in 27),

Adrian Legazpi - Armando Moreno (40-27 in 28) and 

Ruben Fernández - Ricardo García (40-27 in 32).
