ANTWERP - The new three cushion world champion, the World Cup winner of this year and the players who will be nominated for the Player of the Year election enter the spotlights again on Saturday, February 21 (2015) at the Supercup gala at the Hilton hotel in Antwerp. The event, the brainchild of Ludo Dielis, returns to the calendar next year after an absence of four years.
The new organizer is Theater Benelux, which is known for the organization of big events and a number of singers under contract. The location is the same as where Ludo Dielis hosted the most of the galas: the Hilton hotel in Antwerp.
The gala is divided into two parts, like in previous years:
x the Supercup, in which the (new) world champion will play against this year's World Cup winner. In case that it's the same player (world champion and World Cup winner), the opponent will be the first player on the world ranking. The two players meet in a match over seven sets of seven caroms.
x The election Player of the Year, for which three players are nominated by an expert jury. The candidates are nominated by the federations, confederations and the top 50 players on the world ranking.
All the famous three cushion players played a major role in the Supercup history and Player of the Year election, such as Frédéric Caudron, Torbjörn Blomdahl, Dick Jaspers, Eddy Merckx, Dani Sánchez, Marco Zanetti, Semih Sayginer and other stars.
The contract between the UMB and the new organizer of the prestigious gala has been signed this week. The organization has been founded by Ludo Dielis. The Belgian is the owner of the event, the UMB is co-owner.
The news will be officially and in all details announced at a press conference on 5 December.
Jean Claude Dupont, president of the UMB, was very pleased by the news. ,,We are delighted that the event returns on our calendar. We knew about the idea already for some time, but we needed absolute certainty. And now the contract is signed, for now we speak about an experimental year with the option to organize for more years.''
Ludo Dielis was again closely involved with the organization, but is not the main responsible for the event. He started the contacts with Benelux theater and Alexandre Ramos as its spokesman. ,,We know each other for many years. They know the event and were very interested in the organization.''
The last Supercup Gala was held in 2011 with Dani Sánchez as world champion and Dick Jaspers as the World Cup winner.
