Eddy Leppens is on his very best and beat another Belgian topgun Eddy Merckx

SLUISKIL - In soccer it would be unthinkable that the mighty Amsterdam (Ajax) could be twice unable to beat a hamlet such as Sluiskil. But billiards is not soccer, and Sluiskil has now been almost invincible in Dutch 3-cushion for two years. Dallinga-Frans Bevers, a 6-2 winner over Partycentrum Osdorp this weekend, is the reigning Dutch champion, the cup holder and the current leader in the competition.

Its only serious competitor, given the player's qualities, is Partycentrum Osdorp. In reality however, Dallinga has ruled supreme in their direct confrontations. Starting off with an 8-0 in the first match, they underlined their dominance with a 6-2 in the second one, today in Sluiskil.

Frédéric Caudron (50 in 22 innings), Eddy Leppens (50 in 17) and Glenn Hofman (45 in 16) turned the match into a demonstration, in front of the home crowd. The only one who could not share in the success was Jean Paul de Bruijn, who lost by a single point against Frans van Kuyk: 45-44 in 33). Moreover it was the day of the high runs: Leppens made 17, Hofman 15, De Bruijn 13 and Merckx 12.

The Dallinga-train is on full steam, and unstoppable in this eredivisie. Including even that lesser match by de Bruijn, the team average came in at an astronomical 2.147.

The four players of the championship team all travel to the World Cup in Hurghada. Nobody will have doubts about their form, even though Glenn Hofman after his wonderful match said: ,,I don't believe in form, it comes and it goes. A day later, things can be different.''

It is encouraging though, the way Caudron, Leppens and Hofman have been playing in the past weeks. The world champion scored 29-12 and 31-17 against Dick Jaspers, survived a little interim sprint by his opponent and ended it 50-46 in his advantage. He averaged over 2.000, but saw two of his teammates do even better.

Eddy Leppens was quick out of the blocks (27-9 in 8), had 48 points after 13 innings, but needed four more innings for the last two. Glenn Hofman was at 20-19 after 13, and ran to the finish line with 15, 2 and 8.

Jean Paul de Bruijn looked to be in safe waters with a 26-8 margin at the halfway point, but then a drought set in and Frans van Kuyk took the opportunity to turn the match around.

Glenn Hofman relished the success, and came up with the numbers that show how good his season has been so far, both in Holland and in Belgium. For Dallinga the 4th board player has so far scored a 1.542 general average, for his Belgian formation in St. Niklaas, where he plays first board, he has even averaged 1.710.

De Distel has reaped the first rewards of their new acquisition Henk Habraken. The 6-2 victory over Capelle-de Terp brings the team into the top 4, a single point ahead of their opponent today. Henk Habraken made his debut with a convincing win over Emilio Sciacca (45-27 in 29). Jef Philipoom (50-29 against Spoormans) and John Tijssens (45-32 against Koorevaar) won the points for Roosendaal, only Gewin Valentijn lost (to Richard Bitalis).

Biljartcafé Jorissen and A1 Biljarts, two middle-table teams, agreed to a 4-4 draw. Raimond Burgman had a remarkable start against Jean van Erp (20-1 in 5 innings) and ended that match a 50-33 winner in 27. Henk Blauwblomme beat Jeffrey Jorissen.

The home team saw substitute Ruud Nieuwenburg (van Daalen sick), and Raymond Ceulemans win their matches, against Norbert Ohagen and Martien van der Spoel respectively.

STZ Zundert maintained its third position thanks to a 6-2 victory over Aardexpress. Roland Forthomme beat Arie Weijenburg in a quality match: a poor start with two in six and fourteen in fourteen turned into 50 -23 in 26. Peter Ceulemans was better off the mark with sixteen in four and thirty in twelve, but he lost rhythm at the end. Barry van Beers had brought home the necessary winbefore the tea.

Holland Mineraal did not slip up against Verbrugge, even though Anno de Kleine only won by three points against Bart Ceulemans (50-47 in 33). Berry Dallinga recovered from a poor match last week, to beat Jelle Pijl 45-29 in 33.

Landswelvaren was host to Van Wanrooij Transport, and only Francis Forton did well: 50-30 in 30 innings against Kurt Ceulemans. The team from Oosterhout took the points home thanks to Frank Martens, Jan Arnouts and Ad Broeders.
