Kees Wittens had a disappointing start in Hurghada

On the third day of the World Cup the better players are separated from the tourists in Hurghada. Haeng Jik Kim and Wilco van Wijk won their first matches of the morning with averages of 1.363, while at another table Salah Farouk finished with a dubious 0.217, reached the Dutch lady Sylvia Eckel to 0.393 and the Jananese Takamasa Hagiwara to 0.423. They can prepare themselves for a few lovely days on the Red Sea coast. The better players will take care for the better matches today, although the loss of Kees Wittens, player in the Dutch top league, was surprising against the Egyptian Hamdi Badr (0-2).

The level is rising hour by hour, as it was shown in the match between Ad Koorevaar and Arnim Kahofer, which in the next session both still have to duel with Francis Forton. Kahofer had profits up for grabs, but missed two matchballs, making te way free for Koorevaar to finish the match with 15-7, 7-15 and 15-14.
Haeng Jik Kim grew up in his match against the Belgian Pascal Claus to the level on which the the junior world champion is allready playing for a few months. Without high runs, he won the two sets 15-9 and 15-10.
Wilco van Wijk entered the tournament at the start and improves himself every day. This morning the Dutchman played his best performance until now: a victory over the Portuguese Miguel Santos with 15-7 and 15-3 and an average of 1.363.
The German Ronny Lindemann impressed again, now in his match with Salah Farouk. The Egyptian collected only five points in 23 innings. Lindemann finished with 1.250 average.
The Egyptian Mohamed Zayed ended exactly on 1.000 average against Czech Jan Hudak and won the game 2-1. Huub Wilkowski from the Netherlands was far too strong for the Japanese Hagiwara: 15-6 and 15-5.
