NIEUWEGEIN - The KNBB section three-cushion of the Dutch Billard federation has launched a plan for a redesign of the Grand Prix ranking tournaments. The cycle new style will start in 2012. The plans are based on up to five ranking tournaments and at least three. The system is a copy of the former BWA- and the current UMB World Cup tournaments.

The new structure should lead to a major tournament (for instance Grand Prix of Osdorp, Zundert, Vlaardingen, Doetinchem or Kapelle) at the end of a serie of pre qualifications. The main event will be played with sixteen ranked players, in short, the participants of the 2011 Masters, together with sixteen players who come from the qualifying rounds.

The playing system is: eight groups of four, 40 points with time clock of 40 seconds, two matches each group (1 against 4, 2 against 3), thereafter winners against the losers. The numbers 1 and 2 of the groups advance to the knockout system based on ave system.

The players from the main event can earn points for the final rankings. The point system is:
Winner: 80 poings; number two: 54; three and four: 38; 5 to 8: 26; 9 to 16: 16; 17 to 24: 10; 25 to 32: 8.

The system of the preliminaries will be:
A. Qualification:
16 ranked players from the elite rankings
16 players from the underlying qualifying rounds.
Game system:
8 groups of 4, 30 points without a timer.
Two matches in the groups (see above)
Numbers 1 and 2 of the groups to main tournament.

B. Pre qualification:
16 ranked players from A class championship (now A-rank).
16 players from underlying qualifiers (open inscription).
Game System: 8 groups of 4, 25 points without a time clock. Numbers 1 and 2 of the qualification round are seeded for A qualification.

C. Pre pre qualification.
Sixteen ranked players from B Class Championship (current B ranking).
Sixteen qualifiers from the underlying (open inscription).
Numbers 1 and 2 to Pre qualification.
Game System: 8 groups of 4, 20 points without a time clock.

The entire system is based on a participation of 98 players (total) and goes as follows:
x 32 open inscription pre pre pre qualification
x 16 from the B-ranking (Pre pre)
x 16 from the A-ranking (Pre qualification)
x 16 from the elite rankings (Qualification)
x 16 from the Masters (Master Tournament)

After the first edition of five tournaments, there will be created a Grand Prix circuit rankings (similar to World Cup ranking).
The numbers 1 until 16 will qualify for the Masters three-cushion.
The numbers 17 until 32 will qualify for the A-class championship.
The numbers 33 until 48 for the B class championship.
The promotion-relegation of this previously wil be deleted.

x The ranking tournaments have an open inscription.
x The new concept makes it attractive for players to participate in the cycle.
x The cycle will be spread over a whole year.
x Only the data of the main tournaments, championships and the Masters are known before.
x The entry to each tournament will be restricted (for example 30 euros).
x For the three championships will be prize money available.
