The Greek World Cup is almost fully booked

ANTWERP/GURI/PELOPONNESE - Summer is not over yet in Europe, the World Games in Cali are right behind us and the billiard world is already looking forward to the upcoming World Cups and the World championships. Belgian player Peter Ceulemans received the first wildcard for the Worlds in Antwerp from his federation today.

Furthermore, for the time being only, 22 players are seeded for the tournament in which Eddy Merckx defends the title. The five Belgians (Merckx, Caudron, Forthomme Leppens and Ceulemans) will be joined by another fellow countryman at a later stage. The organization is allowed to distribute another wildcard.

Raymond Ceulemans was a serious option, but the legend doesn’t seem to come to the start. The other Belgian options are Peter De Backer and Jef Philipoom.

The top twelve (with Eddy Merckx as world champion): Torbjörn Blomdahl, Frédéric Caudron, Jérémy Bury, Marco Zanetti, Dani Sánchez, Dick Jaspers, Sung-Won Choi, Kyung Roul Kim, Jae Ho Cho, Filippos Kasidokostas, Lütfi Cenet and Murat Naci Coklu.

The numbers 14 to 22: Adnan Yüksel, Martin Horn, Tayfun Tasdemir, Choong-Bok Lee, Sameh Sidhom, Roland Forthomme, Eddy Leppens, Dong Koong Kang, O Takeshima.

The first World Cup of the season is on the calendar from 3 to 8 September in Guri (Korea). Twelve players, with Torbjörn Blomdahl as the number one ranked and Lütfi Cenet as twelfth, are seeded. Roland Forthomme is awarded by a wildcard from the CEB, the Colombian Carlos Campino from the CPB. Two wildcards will be divided by the organization.

On the players list, with room for 109 players, are places reserved from 104 to 109 for Korean players. The places to 86 are occupied. The most known players: Eddy Leppens, Ryuuji Umeda, Christian Rudolph, Tayfun Tasdemir, Murat Naci Coklu, Adnan Yüksel, Sameh Sidhom, Ahmet Alp, Savas Bulut, Can Capak, Nikos Polychronopoulos, Javier Teran, Koong Kang Dong, Choong-Bok Lee, Jung Han Heo, Javier Palazón, Ruben Legazpi, Jean Paul de Bruijn, Quoc Nguyen Nguyen Xuan Cuong Ma, Michael Nilsson, Dave Christiani, Jose Maria Mas, Therese Klompenhouwer, Namiko Hayashi, Luis Aveiga and Barry van Beers.

Main absent: Martin Horn, who neither is on the starting list for the Greek World Cup.

The World Cup in the theme park in Peloponnese, from 16 to 22 September, had a great appeal to players around the world. The organization has 148 places available, 26 places are reserved for players suggested by the organization.

Twelve players, up to and including Cenet, have been seeded. Four wildcards are given to O Takelshima, Pedro Piedrabuena, Kostantinos Kokkoris and Kostantinos Papakostantinou.

Most players (29) come from Turkey (Tasdemir, Coklu, Yüksel, Alp, Capak, Bulut, Uymaz, Tüzül, Degener).
The Koreans show up with ten players, including Jung Han Heo, Choong-Bok Lee.

The Netherlands: Jean Paul de Bruijn, Glenn Hoffman, Raimond Burgman, Dave Christiani, Therese Klompenhouwer, Karina Jetten, Barry van Beers.

Belgium: Peter Ceulemans, Roland Forthomme.
