Thorsten Frings after his win against Martin Horn: ,,We'll see how long I can keep this level.''

KREFELD - The magnificent win Thorsten Frings recorded in the Belgian league last night against Martin Horn (50-36 in 22) is not just a coincidence. The German from Krefeld has made new steps in his private life and wants to focus more on billiards. Thorsten: ,,I know that I can play good and want to take my chances.''

His performance in the Belgian derby (De Ploeg 1 vs De Ploeg 2) was refreshing. Thorsten Frings looked reborn at the table, released from pressure and stress, free from worry.

What has changed in his life? Thorsten: ,,I was not happy with some things in my private life and I tried to change. I cleaned up a little my private life and also want to focus on billiards more than before. I feel fit now and nearly never tired, even after a full day of working and driving two hours to Belgium for an billiards match. The victory was the result of the changes.''

Thorsten Frings plays in the leagues in three countries (Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium), is married to Janine since 2012 and has a busy job in a German company, KYB Europe GmbH in Krefeld, the biggest producer of shocks absorbers for cars worldwide, where he's responsible for the shipments to Russia. ,,My job is still at the same company, but it changed a bit. Not so heavy anymore. My responsibilities and my job volume are decreased due to full overload for around three years.''

,,In private I had some difficult weeks. My wife and me were thinking about having a baby. Unfortunately, I like to make everything as save as possible and I had to answer some questions for myself, before I know how to manage time: what you have to do, what is the financial situation when the baby is there and one of us needs to stay at home.''

It was a period of thinking, make decisions and look to the future. ,,,All this is out of my mind now, my head is free of problems, which they are not for others, maybe.''

That means he can more focus on billiards now. ,,The match I played last night there was a consequence. I'm not really so much focussing on training. I'm playing for three teams, in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Furthermore I will try to play one or two training matches a week or play one or two hours for myself. But it depends on my mood. It can happen that I do just team matches for a few weeks.''

Thorsten Frings feels at home as the first player in the Belgian team De Ploeg 2, which made an excellent debut in the premier league with at the other tables Dirk Weeremans, Tom Persyn and Eddy Willems. ,,We have a good atmosphere in the team and can be a feared opponent. We showed it again in the match against our first team, when my team mates took a lead with 4-0 before the break. Then it's much easier for me to play. And I know that I can play good matches, but certainly not that strong as now against Martin Horn.''

,,I tried to focus on my game and not to think about Martin as an opponent. It was a long time ago that I defeated him, because every time I win, he was so exasperated that after the win, he beat me many times.''
All I can say about last night is: my head is working, so my arm too. I try not to think about the situation too deeply, because I know there will be other periods, but I'm not waiting for that. We'll see how long I can keep this level.''
