MEDELLIN - The top four of the World Cup in Medellin, who will compete for the title and the other podium places, has performed on absolute world class level in the previous rounds. Belgian Eddy Leppens recorded the best average over three matches: 2.553.

Filippos Kasidokostas starred with 2.181 of average, Frédéric Caudron with 2.105 and Torbjörn Blomdahl with 1.791. The world record tournament average, played by Blomdahl at the World Cup in Peloponnese (2.739) is not in danger, but when Eddy Leppens can keep scoring like he did so far, he can come close.

Three of the top four finished a match in twelve innings: Blomdahl against Hwang, Leppens when he faced Merckx and Caudron against Lizarazo. Furthermore, Leppens closed one match in 15 innings against Jérémy Bury and Kasidokostas twice in 17 innings when he beat Marco Zanetti and Kyung-Roul Kim.

Torbjörn Blomdahl had one 'minor' match in the opening against Alejandro Piza (40 in 33). Frédéric Caudron needed 25 innings for the match against Glenn Hoffman, Filippos Kasidokostas had his ’worst match’ against Dong Koong Kang (21) and Eddy Leppens against Luis Martinez (20).

The tournament win is at stake today, but also the positions on the world ranking. Frédéric Caudron is the leader after he won the world title with 434 points, ahead of Torbjörn Blomdahl with 406, Jérémy Bury with 310, Marco Zanetti with 309 and Dick Jaspers with 308.

The top three spots can change dependant on the result at the end. Torbjörn Blomdahl can take the lead if he wins the tournament, even though he plays the final against Caudron.

Filippos Kasidokostas can make a jump on the ranks: the Greek is now sixth with 291 points, but will climb to top three with the tournament win. And Eddy Leppens (now 22) is well on his way to a place near to the top twelve.

On the rank so far, Jérémy Bury (328), Marco Zanetti (317), Dick Jaspers (296), Kyung-Roul Kim (282) and Sung-Won Choi (274) secure their positions in the top eight. Dani Sánchez, despite his absence in Medellin, doesn’t lose his position in the top ten.

The matches in the semi-finals will be played at 13.00 (Colombian time), 19.00 CET.

The two matches in the semi-finals and the final (16.00) will be broadcast live on Kozoom.
