GHENT - The entire Belgian top in three-cushion and talented young players like Kenny Miatton and Steven van Acker are performing in the final stage of the Gouden Martinus tournament in Ghent from today: the Grand Prix 't Fermetje. The showdown takes place upcoming three weeks, with the quarterfinals starting next week.
Tonight (5 April) Roland Forthomme, multiple Belgian champion and top twenty in the world, Kenny Miatton, former juniors vice world and Francis Forton, who turned fifty this week, will play tonight (5 April), Peter De Backer, former world champion and member of the organizing club, is one of the players who will try to seed next Tuesday.
Multiple former world champions such as Frédéric Caudron and Eddy Merckx, one time world champion Jef Philipoom and Peter Ceulemans appear to the tables next Thursday (19 April).
On Friday, 20 April, Michel van Camp (ex-vice European champion small table) can be admired. Eddy Leppens, with many big titles on his palmares and a second place at the World championship in Sluiskil, plays on Wednesday, April 25.
Furthermore there are a few club members (Fuat Demircioglu and Dieter Steels, Exqi reporter and son of Kurt Ceulemans), who will try to show their qualities in the battle with top players.
Jean-Claude Dupont, president of the World Billard Association (UMB) is also the chairman of De Gouden Martinus, organizing club of the tournament.
