LIMA - The reigning champion Henry Diaz is toppled from his throne in the Pan American Championships. He was defeated in the quarter finals by Andres Lizarazo, a few weeks ago sparkled with two sides in the world tournament in New York (40-31 in 34). Two Colombians Huberney Catano and Andres Lizarazo, stand in the semifinals against two surprises in the tournament, Christopher Tevez from Peru and Argentine Juan Pablo Sisterna. Other major contenders like Pedro Piedra Buena and Robinson Morales were eliminated in the preliminary phase. The American lost to Juan Pablo Sisterna with 40-36 in 36, Morales was defeated in the quarter finals by Luis Aveiga with 40-32 in 33.
The tournament at the Pan American title will today (Friday) are denouement. Huberney Catano is the big favorite for the final victory, but the competition is ready for a coup.
Christopher Tevez showed in the quarter-finals even the best form of Luis Aveiga defeat with 40-14 in 19 innings. Juan Pablo Sisterna won by Erick Tellez (40-32 in 23), Huberney Catano of Juan Jose Garcia (40-25 in 23) and Andres Lizarazo in a marathon party Cayo Bardales: 40-28 in 45.
Young, a former junior world champion Juan Jose Garcia switched Carlos Campino in the eighth finals (40-29 in 28). Huberney Catano won in that round of Javier Teran (40-25 in 23) and title contender Henry Diaz was eliminated by Lizarazo in which ronde.Harry Reyes dropped a tear when he had against Jose Juan Garcia a lead of 34-20 in 24 innings taken, but was eliminated by the final sprint of his opponent (4-3-3-5-2-1): 40-39 in 36.
Ramon Rodriguez, the crowd favorite, was knocked out in the classic against Luis Aveiga. The home player had a good start with 4-3-3-1 and had 24 caroms in 17 innings in the final sprint Aveiga was the best among more with a final series of six: 40-34 in 32.
