Franz Stenzel, chairman of the 80 years old Austrian billiard federation.

VIENNA - The World Cup in Vienna from September 26 to October 2, is already overbooked with participants. For the tournament in the Stadthalle is so much interest that there is a reserve list so far with 44 players. The inscription for the tournament, the forth World Cup this year, opened last week. The deadline is on the 5th of September.

The World Cup in Suwon (Korea), who is one month earlier from August 29 to September 4, still has a lot of places available. The organization received 87 inscriptions so far.

Many players with great names, such as Glenn Hoffman, Jérôme Barbeillon, Jean Reverchon, Jose Maria Mas, Jean Paul de Bruijn, Christian Rudolph and Barry Beers have underestimate the speed with which the World Cup in Vienna was fully booked. On the list of participants there are 106 players. On the playerslist is room for ten places reserved for the numbers 13 to 32 of the world ranking, 22 Austrian players also receive a reserved seat.

In the Stadthalle will be built an arena with six billiard tables. With two tables more, like in the World Cups in Sluiskil, where the interest of participants also was very big, the organization can add 48 players more to the tournament. Some players (like Jean Paul de Bruijn) want to ask the UMB for a solution.

Peter Weingesl is the tournament director. He organizes the World Cup together with the Austrian Billard federation (BSVÖ), which celebrates his eighty years birthday this year and whose chairman is the former top player Franz Stenzel.

For the World Cup in Suwon all wild cards have been given away already. Marco Zanetti and Lütfi Cenet get the wildcard from the CEB, Javier Teran and Luis Aveiga from the South American confederation, Jae Ho Cho and Hee Hwang Durk from the organization and Chung Bok Lee and Ryuuji Umeda from the Asian confederation.

The Austrians Andreas Efler and Gerhard Kostistansky, Ryuuji Umeda (Japan), Chung Bok Lee (Korea) and the Colombians Robinson and Julian Morales received the wildcards for the World Cup in Vienna.
