ALMELO - The fifth Jan Brunnekreef Memorial came to an end after an exciting fight with a victory for Walter Bax. The Belgian passed the finish after a neck-and-neck race with René Dericks: both players gathered 261 points and a 52.20 percent score. The participants came from the Netherlands (5), Belgium (2) and Germany.

Walter Bax was crowned the winner, because he needed ten attempts less than his opponent. Jop de Jong, who had a moderate start, was third on the podium ahead of Sander Jonen and Erik Vijverberg.

The fifth Jan Brunnekreef tournament, in Erik Vijverberg's billiard room in Almelo, was played with ivory balls because of the jubilee. That was an extra handicap for the players.

The final score (attempts, points, score):

1 Walter Bax (Belgium) 176-261-52.20
2 René Dericks (The Netherlands) 186-261-52.20
3 Jop de Jong (Netherlands) 178-232-46.40
4 Sander Jonen (The Netherlands) 187-227-45.40
5 Erik Vijverberg (The Netherlands) 191-222-44.40
6 Eric Daelman (Belgium) 192-198-39.60
7 Mark Janssen (The Netherlands) 200-183-36.60
8 Rob Scholtes (The Netherlands) 199-172-34.40
9 Bernd Singer (Germany) 195-165-33.00.
