PORTO - The world of three cushion will almost certainly be enriched by the advent of a very attractive global tournament. The WCBS, World Confederation of Billiard Sports, the umbrealla organisation that represents the three sports of pool, carom and snooker, has made serious plans during its general assemblee in Wroclaw, Poland, to organize the WCBS World championship in China, 2016.
For the championship, all disciplines of the umbrella organization will be invited. The men in all disciplines battle for 50.000 dollars prize money, the women for 25.000, divided among the four players on stage.
Sixteen men's three cushion players will be selected from all confederations, in addition, eight women will be invited.
Farouk Barki, the WCBS vice president and sports director since 2005, told the news to Kozoom one day after the World Cup in Porto. ,, We had a meeting, a 'general assembly' in Wroclaw where the plans was launched. I can already tell you that it is 99 percent certain that this WCBS-tournament will be held.''
The tournament will be organized according to the system of the World Games (within a week and knockout in all disciplines), organized four times so far with Dani Sánchez (2001, Akita and 2005, Duisburg), Dick Jaspers (2009, Kaohsiung) and Marco Zanetti (2013, Cali) as winners. The next World Games are in Wroclaw, Poland, in 2017.
The World Confederation of Billiard Sports is the umbrella organization representing the three sports pool, snooker and carom. The board is currently made up of seven members with three votes for each sport.
The WCBS plans to invite for its tournament sixteen players in the men's three cushion, eight in the women's three cushion, sixteen snooker players (amateurs), sixteen pool players in the men, sixteen pool players in the women's event and finally eight women snooker players.
The location in China and date for the event are not yet known. Farouk Barki: ,,We will try to officially announce it as soon as possible.''
Jean Claude Dupont, who retired as UMB president during the European championships in Brandenburg, was not elected president during the WCBS meeting. The new president is Jason Ferguson from Bristol, England, who represents pool in the organization.
