The French championship has a great poster with famous players.

CHATILLON - Dick Jaspers against Frédéric Caudron, Eddy Merckx against Marco Zanetti, Torbjorn Blomdahl against Roland Forthomme, Martin Horn against Peter de Backer and Jérémy Bury against Richard Bitalis: the championship for teams in France, which is starting today in Châtillon, is more than a simple national championship. Six players who are in the top twelve of the world will meet each other today, tomorrow and Saturday in a battle in which the sixfold European champion Agipi is 0the big favorite.

That seems a premature conclusion, because Clichy Montmartre has with Dick Jaspers and Eddy Merckx the numbers one and two of the world  in the ranks. The difference in strength is the occupation of the tables three and four. Jérémy Bury is for Agipi a world top player on three and Christoph Roux a very strong French player at four. Clichy has two old fighters, Richard Bitalis and Jean Reverchon on the billiards three and four.

It may sound paradoxical, but it seems that it will be more difficult for Agipi to win the French title than to conquer the European championship. Not only Clichy Montmartre, but also Laxou with Torbjörn Blomdahl and Martin Horn and Andernos with Roland Forthomme and  Peter de Backer are great competitors for this championship.

The Parisians of Clichy were the second in the preliminaries, therefore they are coupled to Agipi in the first session. Jaspers against Caudron is a brilliant poster for tonight at 20.00, Zanetti plays against Merckx at the same time. The first part of this encounter, Bury-Bitalis and Roux-Reverchon starts at 18.00.

Laxou and Andernos will open the ball this afternoon at 14.00 with the matches Boingnères-Soumagne and Amar-Connesson. Forthomme-Blomdahl and De Backer-Horn will play at 16.00.

Tomorrow is the second session between these four teams. The losers of Saturday play the small final on Saturday, the final matches are at 14.00.
