PORCIA - In the small cit of Porcia, 50 km from Venice, the Italian championship for club teams is played this weekend. On 9, 10 and 11th of February, the teams gather in the beautiful club of Green Planet Gold. This team is the title holder with Marco Zanetti, Dani Sánchez and the new number three, Adnan Yüksel. The former club of Selinus, now called Billiards Cafe A, will show up as a big competitor with its new big guns, the Belgians Eddy Merckx and Eddy Leppens.
The organizing club, normally a five pins reign, discovered carom through its owners Alessandro Di Leo and his partner Paolo, who have fallen in love with the game when they saw Marco Zanetti playing for the first time. Today, the club has some 30 carom players and is with its six match tables, the biggest carom centre in northern Italy .
This year, the championship will be played with 10 teams, with Green Planet Gold as title holder for the four last years. In 2017, Green Planet won the final against Selinus, this year called Billiards cafe A, with a new Italian general average record: 1.149. The promoter and player Francesco Orlando of Billiards café A wants to put up a big fight with his new guns Merckx and Leppens.
Black horse, like always, will be La Biglia, another very good team, composed only from Italian players.
The game system: three groups of four teams, with the winner of every group and the best second going to semifinals.
