Zapatica grabs title under 25 in Spain

Juan David Zapata was by far the strongest in the Spanish title race under 25

GETAFE - The young and very talented Spaniard Juan David Zapata, called Zapatica by his friends, has won the Spanish title three cushion under 25 years in Getafe. Moreover he starred with an excellent average, 1.550, which made him by far the best of eight players in the championship.

David Zapata defeated Rubén Fernández in the final (40-31 in 29). That was the highlight of his amazing tournament, in which Zapata was group winner with two wins in 36 innings and against Rubén Fernández in 11 innings (3.636).

The player from Murcia closed the group stage with 1.446 and then played in the semi-final against Sergio Aparicio, whom he defeated 40-12 in 17. Rubén Fernández was already beaten by Zapata in the group stage and also couldn't threaten the new champion in the final: 40-31 in 29.

David Martinez, who won the Madrid Open last week, couldn't make it to the final: he lost in the semi-finals against Rubén Fernández: 40-34 in 51.

The Catalan player Marta Serramitjana won the women championship in the final against Estela Cardoso (17-9 in 50 innings).
