Dimitri Jungo at the table against Nick van den Berg

In another one-sided semi-final match, Dimitri Jungo (SUI) eliminated Nick van den Berg (NED) with 9:3.

‘Nick van den Berg never found his break’ could be another headline for this article. In six own breakshots he came dry three times and scratched twice. He had only one good break in the match. Jungo broke relatively solid and benefitted from that, gaining a 7:1 advantage over van den Berg. The Dutch did not get into the game and also did not play up to his top performance. Before the 9th rack, van den Berg took a time out and came back to the table, ready to change something. Jungo broke powerful but got no position for the 1-ball. A safety battle evolved and van den Berg came out of that on top of Jungo. He won the rack, making the score 2:7. Then the drama unfolded. Van den Berg broke and had two balls down. He played a brilliant safety and Jungo answered that with a tactical foul. Van den Berg cleared all problems and was on his way when he missed a 6-ball that was more than easy. What a catastrophe for “El Nino”! He shook his head and got into his chair being completely frustrated with the way the match went.

Jungo generally had the balls run in his favour but he also played better than van den Berg since he made less mistakes. In the 11th rack, Jungo broke dry and van den Berg cleared the table, still being mad about himself and about the chances he had not made use of. At a score of 8:3 in favour of Jungo, the final rack could not have been more characteristic. Van den Berg broke and scratched. Jungo lined up a 1-9 combination shot and missed it, but the 9 travelled back to the pocket and dropped! That ended the second semi-final in Sarajevo today.

The final match will be played between Albin Ouschan and Dimitri Jungo at 19:00 local time.
