Phenomenal stroke and good concentration, Eddy Merckx played the best match ever in the history during the German Bundesliga on 8 October 2011 for the team of Duisburg where he scored 50 points in 6 innings. A supernatural performance!

Frédéric Caudron (BEL)

Antwerp 2013, Bogota 1999

Nicknamed "L'Extraterrestre" ("The Extraterrestrial ») when playing his best, Frederic Caudron is untouchable. He plays fast, spectacular and his amazing performances in all carom games making him a unique champion in the history of the sport.

Torbjörn Blomdahl (SWE)

Bordeaux 2015, Grubbenvorst 1997 + 3 times !

The current World number 1 player, Torbjörn Blomdahl has been dominating the discipline the last three decades. His brilliant approach to the game has contributed to improving the level of play of the generation after the Ceulemans era. His 2015 final won after penalties set the public on fire!

Daniel Sánchez (ESP)

Sluiskil 2010, Lugo 2005, Rezé 1998

A very popular and super talented Champion able to play at his best in major events: he won 2 World Games in 2001 and 2005. At 41 years age, he is still the best Spanish champion of 3-Cushion and the first one who opened the way to a new generation of talent in his country.

Marco Zanetti (ITA)

St Wendel 2008, Randers 2002

A charismatic champion with an atypical stroke, he has been in the top 10 for the last 30 years. He has a fighting spirit and a super technique. 2013 has been his most successful season with an unprecedented series of victories: Lausanne Masters, AGIPI Masters, European Champ and World Games.

Great professional player with top performances in regular season and tournament play. In the early 2000s, Dick Jaspers was the first player able to play a whole tournament (7 matches) over 2.500 average.

A high class player with an outstanding technique for position play. In the last two years, his inconsistent play results will not guarantee his participation in Bordeaux.

Semih Sayginer (TUR)

Valladolid 2003

Nicknamed Mr. Magic or Turkish Prince, Semih Sayginer is back in competition after a 6-year break due to a conflict with the previous president of the Turkish Federation. His stroke and his showmanship are still intact. Fans across the world are very happy to have him back.

Ryuuji Umeda (JAP)

Cuenca 2007

Ryūji Umeda was the big surprise of the 2007 edition in Ecuador. With this victory, he became the second Asian to win it in 34 years since Nobuaki Kobayashi. He is retired from international tournament for three years and will not be participating in Bordeaux.

Raymond Ceulemans (BEL)

Luxembourg 2001 + 20 times !!!

After winning  35 World Championships (21 in three-cushion), 48 European titles and 61 national titles, Raymond Ceulemans is possibly the most dominant force in any one sport. « Mister 100 » is still the only carom player who has been inducted into the Billiard Congress of America's Hall of Fame. A Legend.

Emotion of the recent World Championships

  •                What are the rules of the competition?

    Matches are race to 40 points with 40 seconds shot-clock and equalizing inning. In case of draw in the final tournament, penalties are played.

     

    The competition starts with 16 groups of 3 players. The first ranked player of each group is qualified to play the final stage: a Knock-Out system from the round of sixteen to the Final.

  •                What is the 3-Cushion Game?

    This is the most famous game of Carom Billiards. It is played with three balls on a pocketless heated 5 X 10 feet table.

     

    To score a point, the cue ball must hit the other two balls, but before the cue ball makes contact with the second object ball (the other player's designated cue ball and the red), it must hit three or more cushions. That is the reason why the game is called 3-Cushion Billiards.

  •                Why this event takes part of the France-Korea Year?

    South-Korea is the country of 3-Cushion. The game is very popular with 40 000 clubs et 10 Million Players.

     

    Sung-Won Choi brought the world title to the South-Korea for the first time in the history in 2014.
