Jeffrey Jorissen, two sets won against Barry van Beers.

KAPELLE - The question is not if Jeffrey Jorissen can play billiards or not, there is no doubt about. The player from The Hague, who spends his practice hours in the billiard cafe of his father, most of the time is not a high flyer in the highest ranks, but sometimes he can shine with great performances, like in the Masters today.

Barry van Beers thought on beforehand that he really was in an ideal group with Dick Jaspers (of course the number one), Ad Koorevaar and Jeffrey Jorissen and that he had big chances to reach the quarter finals. This scenario was very close, after he had lost against Jaspers, but he defeated Koorevaar 3-0.

He only needed one set against Jeffrey Jorissen, but the thirty year old Hague man came to the arena with heavy artillery. He won the first set 15-14, the second even 15-4 and put his opponent under pressure.

At the very end Barry van Beers showed his class: he won the third set 15-9 in 12 innings, after which he was almost certainly seeded. ,,Then I could only spoil my quarter final place by losing with a very bad average in the fourth set.''

When he had won that set 15-6 in 17 innings, the decision was there in the group. Dick Jaspers is the first after his victory against Ad Koorevaar (15-6, 15-14, 15-2, 2.045 average), Barry van Beers is the second.

In the B group Dave Christiani had been almost certain, now he is: he beat Therese Klompenhouwer 15-9, 15-2 and 15-9 (1.875/0.909) and finished as winner of his group before Jean van Erp, who had a difficult start against Huub Wilkowski (6-15), but grabbed the win in the next sets: 3-1 (1.275/1.051).
