Frédéric Caudron and Eddy Merckx meet so many times in a year: this time Caudron won.

SCHILTIGHEIM - The European champions have already seeded for the battle for gold and silver, FC Porto and Andernos are still fighting for the other place in the final. Frédéric Caudron, Marco Zanetti and Jérémy Bury showed again how strong they make the dreamteam in the semi final against Clichy Montmartre.

Jean Christoph Roux couldn't share in the hegemony: he lost against Jean Reverchon (40-29 in 32), the artistique specialist, who excelled in his first and third match in this tournament and gave Clichy Montmartre's farewell the glory that the team deserves.

The Paris team has withdrawn this year from the French league because the players and the sponsor did not agree with the European rules. Jean Reverchon said that it was a main reason for a faster farewell than expected.

Eddy Merckx, Eddy Leppens, Richard Bitalis, Jean Reverchon and sometimes Michael Nilsson have formed a strong team of friends, that showed himself a stiff competitor for Agipi in the French championship and European Cup.

Today the sevenfold European Cup winner was a way too strong: Frédéric Caudron won 40-30 against Eddy Merckx in 19 innings. Marco Zanetti defeated Eddy Leppens 40-34 in 20 and Jérémy Bury had a large margin at the finish after his duel with Richard Bitalis: 40-21 in 25 innings.
