Bastion Dallinga is not unbeatable

ZUNDERT - History may not repeat itself, said Jan Kikken, the team leader of Dallinga/Frans Bevers announced in the days before the start of the Dutch cup final. The Zeeland team failed last year in the battle for the title and the cup. Jan Kikken wants a bloody revenge this year.

The bastion is not unbeatable, as the results showed last year and now again in the qualification rounds of the cup final. Dallinga started with an 8-0 victory yesterday, but spoiled one match point on the second day against Holland Mineraal.

Frédéric Caudron and Glenn Hoffman signed for the draw. Jean Paul de Bruijn and Eddy Leppens were beaten by Anno de Kleine and Stefan Galla.

Was it a big surprise? Maybe it isn’t.

Jean Paul de Bruijn had a few strong performances in recent weeks, but played very poor against Anno de Kleine (2-1 loss, averages 1.375/0.969). The same match was decisive as well last year for Dallinga’s elimination, when De Bruijn lost 3-1 vs De Kleine.

Caudron and Hofman dragged the team through the minor match: the Belgian defeated Murat Naci Coklu with clear cifres (15-8, 15-8 and 15-6, 1.957 average), Glenn Hoffman got rid off a loss in the first set and defeated Stefan Spilleman 2-1.
Eddy Leppens won his first set against Stefan Galla on one carom, but lost his win chance in the next two sets: 15-12 and 15-8.

A1 Biljarts rolled over De Eekhoorn (8-0) in the other group. Raimond Burgman was the best player with a 3-0 victory against John Roovers, who only made nine caroms in 22 innings.

Martien van der Spoel (against Rini Boeren) and Henk Blauwblomme (against Wiljan van den Heuvel) also won 3-0, Dion Nelin lost only one set against Adrie Demming.

Dallinga is leader in Group A after the first matches of the second day. A1 Biljarts leads in Group B.
