BC Quality stays in highest division

ZELE - BC Quality Zele has won the deciding match in the fight against degradation by beating BC Lugo Deurne last night. The match ended 6-2. Jean Paul de Bruijn impressed with a sparkling start: 25 caroms in four innings against Henk Habraken. BC Lugo must now try to survive in the play-offs to maintain the place in the highest division.

BC Deurne won the match against Op de Meir 6-2, but was already crowned as the champion. Eddy Merckx played like Jean Paul de Bruijn in Zele an average of 2.380.

BC Quality confirmed the transfer of Eddy Merckx to the team in Zele for next season. Dirk Vlerick, the sports manager, said: ,,We were waiting until we were sure that we would stay in the first division, but now we can announce that Merckx will play for us us.''

Martin Spoormans says goodbye to BC Lugo Deurne after the playoffs. He is the last of the successful team that won three Belgian titles on a row three, four and five years ago with players like Dick Jaspers, Torbjörn Blomdahl, Roland Forthomme and Raimond Burgman. Spoormans will play for Biljart Express next year.

Jean Paul de Bruijn made a spectacular start in his match last night in the beautiful billiard center of BC Quality Zele. He had a lead over Habraken 25-0 in four innings, while the world record of 50 caroms in nine innings is played by Torbjörn Blomdahl, Marco Zanetti and Frédéric Caudron. In the fifth inning De Bruijn missed very unhappy, in the sixth he had a springing ball. Then, at a score of 30-1, the rhythm was out. De Bruijn won 50-22 in 21 innings.

Peter de Backer defeated Martin Spoormans on the other table 50-37 in 37, Glenn Hofmann won against Marc Janssen 42-24, only Patrick Kesteloot lost after a big lead at the break (21-4) against Erik Hendrickx 42-38.

For BC Deurne Merckx won 50-20 against Wim Cromvoirt, showing himself the big leader of the team with a high average and a run of ten.
Jef Philipoom defeated Rudy de Laet, Ludo Dielis won against Kees Wittens, Therese Klompenhouwer lost to Tom Persijn.
