Roland Forthomme, best game in the double weekend

WITTEN - BCC Witten has crowned itself autumn champion in the last weekend of the first half of the German team competition. The frontrunner had to deal with a draw against Velbert, but that was enough to stay ahead of BC International Berlin and BC Weywiesen.

ATSV Erlangen got the first point by playing a draw against St. Wendel, which had to play without world champion Dick Jaspers.

As expected, the match between BC Weywiesen and BC International Berlin was decisive. The Berlin team would have taken the lead if they had won, but Weywiesen won the match 6-2 and 1,560 as team average. The score was 2-2 at the break, as Cengiz Karaca won vs. national coach Christian Rudolph 50-45 in 29. Norbert Roestel, however, lost to Tom Löwe 40-50 in 37. The second round was a real battle. Roland Forthomme won the match against Jean van Erp with the best score of the weekend (50-43 in 23), Torbjörn Blomdahl ensured his team's final victory by beating Martin Horn 50-48 in 36.

BCC Witten is only one point ahead of BC International. Third place is for BC Weywiesen with 16 points.

BC Magdeburg, which withdrew from the matches due to two Corona cases, learned on Friday of the DBU's decision that the two matches were declared lost.

Eddy Merckx and Jean Paul de Bruijn ensured on Saturday that the German leader made a half miss. BC Witten, that leads the league, played a draw against Velbert, that tries to get out of the bottom regions. The draw came about thanks to Merckx and De Bruijn. The Belgian beat Ronny Lindemann 50-38 in 27 innings, Jean Paul de Bruijn beat his compatriot Dave Christiani 50-43 in 35 innings.

BC Witten was in the lead after the Saturday matches ahead of BC International, which won 5-3 against Xanten. Peter Ceulemans, playing for Elversberg, won the match against Erlangen, Ceulemans finshed in 37 innings, the leader Ruben Legazpi in 32 innings.
