SINT NIKLAAS/TURNHOUT - How could the Belgian competition for teams in the highest league go to a more exciting finish? This night, Tuesday, Op de Meir and Mr. 100 Lier play for the title, but both at a different location with a different opponent. Top tension on the very last match day. For both teams it's a chance to concour the Belgian title for the first time. Mister 100 Lier, with Peter, Kurt and Bart Ceulemans and Jerry Hermans was in the best shape, but was surprisingly beaten by De Witte Molen in a match for the 20th round. That, team, De Witte Molen, is also the decider this week, as it plays against Op de Meir in Sint Niklaas. And on top of that all: Mr. 100 lost the important match in the 21st round against Op de Meir 8-0!

Bart Ceulemans is looking forward to the chance of another title, after he celebrated a championship in the Netherlands last week, a title for the third time in his career. He became champion with the Burgmans team in Bergeijk and will play in the premier league next year. The youngest of the Ceulemans stronghold had a nice quip for it, after his third title win: ''I have now won 146 titles together with my granddad (Raymond Ceulemans)...''

Op de Meir in its turn made an unexpected slip in the last appearance: in the 19th round against Zanzibar it lost 5-3, as only Eddy Leppens won his match against Andy de Bondt.

And now it goes to the apotheosis this Tuesday 3rd of May (as of 19.30), with Op de Meir in the lead on 32 points and Mr. 100 Lier on 31 points. And should the two teams end up equal in points, Mr. 100 will be champion on match points and average. Op de Meir plays its last match against De Witte Molen in Sint Niklaas. Mr. 100 plays its last match against Biljart Express in Turnhout (the outgoing champion).

What are the chances for the two rivals?
Op de Meir is normally the favorite to win against De Witte Molen, which is however a very strong team at home and even won 0-8 against Op de Meir.
The line-ups in that match:
Op de Meir with Peter De Backer, Barry van Beers, Eddy Leppens and Ivan Stischinsky
De Witte Molen with Tom Löwe, Dirk Weeremans, Francis Forton, Ad Broeders.
The line-up at Biljart Express-Mr. 100:
Biljart Express: Eddy Merckx, Frans van Kuyk, Gerwin Valentijn, Martin Spoormans
Mr. 100: Peter Ceulemans, Kurt Ceulemans, Jerry Hermans, Bart Ceulemans.

Bart Ceulemans: ''We know our chance is very little, but we're going to give it all and hope for a small miracle.''

Some last news: Eddy Merckx and Dirk Weeremans are the last two players to qualify for the Belgian championship, previously played in the Multi's, with sixteen finalists.

Come and see!!!!
