Therese Klompenhouwer, ten championships, ten titles in Holland

OOSTERHOUT - That would be nice, Therese Klompenhouwer calculated in the days before the Dutch championship three-cushion for ladies. When the 35-year-old Nijkerk girl, reigning Dutch, European and world champion, will be crowned best of the Netherlands again this Sunday, it will be her 11th title on 11/11. ,,I am the favourrite, of course I am the favourite, because I am always'', Therese realizes. And indeed: in ten previous Dutch championships she has never been beaten.

The championship has been launched today, Friday, at Camping De Eekhoorn in Oosterhout. 28 players come into action, 20 of them play the pre-rounds in five groups of four. The eight players that were automatically seeded and later enter the tournament are Therese Klompenhouwer as the title holder, Loes van Dansik, the number two last year, Gerrie Geelen, Joke Breur, Monique van Exter, Karina Jetten, Monique Wilkowski and Daisy Werdekker.

The competition comes from the same players as always, however it must be said that Loes van Dansik was a surprising finalist last year. Therese won her first championship in 2004 in Hoeven. She says that was the first Dutch championship ever played. ,,Then it was not organized again for a few years, until Eibergen was the organizer three times. And from then on it has been De Eekhoorn every year.''
