Ceulemans day in Albert: Peter defeats Caudron

ALBERT - What a wonderful day for Peter and Kurt Ceulemans and the team of Albert in the second round of the French team league. The two Belgians played against Colmar with Frédéric Caudron in the highest class division B. Albert remained unbeaten and triumphed 6-2. After the away match against CetSI Morangis on the first day, the Belgian players shone again for the Albert team. Peter and Kurt Ceulemans defeated Eddy Merckx and Eddy Leppens in the first encounter. The strong fighter Peter Ceulemans now even bested Frédéric Caudron 50-46 in 28 innings.

Kurt Ceulemans won his match against Dany Boutet 50-23 in 25 innings. The excellent playing Cédric Melnytschenko shared in the team's victory: he defeated the junior world champion Adrien Tachoire (50-34 in 36). Kurt Ceulemans' performance in 25 innings was the best match of the day. On the other table won Jérôme Riotto the tough match vs Kévin Perrotin 50-48 in 54. 

Therefor the match was in balance at the break.

Frédéric Caudron (vs Peter Ceulemans) and Cédric Melnytschenko (vs Adrien Tachoire) took an early lead in the second part: Caudron 28-11 in 11 innings, Melnytschenko 30-9 in 12 innings. Peter Ceulemans used the twelfth inning to fight back with a run of eleven, the highest of the match day. That brought the score to 28-22. Little by little Peter Ceulemans was catching up Frédéric Caudron and he even took the lead at 40-39 in 22 innings.

And while the match between Melnytschenko and Tachoire came to an end with 50-34, the Belgian clash was at 45-45. Peter Ceulemans made four points in the 27th, missed the winning, but took the overall victory for Albert in his next inning.
By the loss, Colmar dropped to the bottom of the ranking.

The overall average of Albert was 1.384 against Colmar 1.069. Andernos still leads the group with four points, followed by Albert with 3 points, CetSI Morangis has one point and Colmar no points.

The Belgians Peter and Kurt Ceulemans won their two matches so far and are both around two average overall.

On the next matchday Albert playes against Andernos and Colmar at home against Morangis.
