Dani Sánchez, thanking Martin Horn for the sportive gesture

BERLICUM - He was the first, Dani Sánchez, to admit that he had a bit more luck than Martin Horn in the second match of the semi-final. The German played four, five balls in a very little whole in the part where winning and losing were decided. Dani Sánchez eventually won 50-42 with a little luck at the end and a fantastic ball for the match. Looking forward to the final against Dick Jaspers, he concluded with a little joke: ''We're going to make a nice final, even with loud, wonderful music.''

Dani Sánchez and Martin Horn were remarkably nervous in the opening of the match and until the break. Martin Horn said afterwards: ''I said to myself at the break: go play billiards, get into your rhythm. I immediately started with a 9 and came back to 30-29. It should have been the new start, but I missed a few times in unfortunate positions. The match could have ended the other way, although I have to say Dani was a bit better than me and he deserved to win''.

That was not the German's only sporting gesture. When Sánchez in the 25th inning, when he just started the attack, scored a point in the middle of the table or he did not. Anyway, he was counted down by the referee. The Spaniard looked somewhat incredulous, at the same time he looked at Martin Horn on his chair, who gestured that he saw the point. The referee corrected his decision and allowed Sánchez to continue playing.

Dani immediately walked up to Martin Horn to thank him. The Spaniard said later: ''Of course that was very sportive of Martin, but that is how it should be in our sport. We play billiards and not football or basketball, where there are other laws. We have to show the public that we are sporting competitors.''

After a great tournament, Martin Horn has to wait another year for another chance at a European title. The German still has a blank record, Dani Sánchez has two European titles to his name. His opponent, Dick Jaspers, won five European titles.

The Jaspers-Sánchez final is at 5.30 pm.
