Andrés Lizarazo and Daniel Morales after a thrilling final match

CALI - Daniel Morales is the new three cushion champion in Colombia after the title race played in Cali. The former Pan American champion in 2016 played a flawless tournament, in which he defeated Andrés Lizarazo in the final 40-32 in 20 innings (2.000/1.600). The Colombian championship was played on a very high level, including the match between Andrés Lizarazo and José Juan Garcia, which is considered one of the most thrilling matches in Colombian billiard history.

The final phase of the event was characterised by tension and high quality. The two final players won their semi-finals with averages of 2,500 and 2,000. The surprise of the tournament came with the early elimination of Pedro González and Huberney Cataño. The Pan American champion failed to qualify for the final day and the defending champion was eliminated by Cristian Montero.

José Juan García and Andrés Lizarazo showed up in a real thriller in the stretch for the final rounds. The former junior world champion, García, who made a run of 17, went into the break with a 24-4 lead in seven innings and had therefore practically decided the match in his favour.

In the final sprint, Garcia kept his lead with 37-33 in 23, but Lizarazo reacted again and levelled in the last inning: 40-40 in 29. The crowd in the stands got to see an amazing apotheosis. In the penalty shootout, Garcia again showed his high level with a run of five. His rival needed to score six to win. For the fourth point, two balls were stuck to the long rail. Lizarazo played a zig-zag and scored improbably and then took the match with six points.

In the other semi-final, Fredy Prieto offered no resistance to the eminent attack of the later winner: 40-16 in 15.

The final ranking:
