Davy van Havere: after the cup victory against Merckx now a win against Caudron.

SCHILTIGHEIM - The 29-year-old Davy van Havere, in the Belgian league for BC Deurne only third man behind Dick Jaspers and Jean Paul de Bruijn, is hard on his way to become a champion killer. After his sensational victory in the Belgian Cup, where he defeated Eddy Merckx in the final, the talented Belgian won his match against Frédéric Caudron in the evening session.

That was not enough for BC Deurne to win the match against Agipi, because the other matches were lost all three lost, but Davy van Havere showed like in the cup final in Hooglede tonight in the Agipi arena against Caudron his fighting spirit and a lot of confidence.

It must be said: Frédéric Caudron was not playing on his highest level, like last week in the Dutch play-offs against Michael Nilsson. He couldn't shine against Van Havere, although Caudron played an absolute top match in the first session against Roland Forthomme.

Davy of Havere attacked after a poor start of his opponent: he took a 26-14 lead in 15 innings, went on to 34-18 in 19, only then Caudron could counter his opponent with a run of eight and a 39-33 score just before the finish. But under pressure, Van Havere utilized his second matchbal for 40-33 in 23 innings (1.739/1.434).

Marco Zanetti can look back on a termendous strong first day with wins against the Belgians Peter De Backer and Steven van Acker, who performed so surprisingly during the preliminaries in Cartagena.

His Italian opponent was a bridge too far after a splendid attack with a run of sixteen in the thirteenth inning to 31-23. Zanetti continued on his best to 34-27 and 39-29 and finished in the 22nd inning 40-28 (1.772/1.272).

Jérémy Bury recovered from his sober start with a victory against Ludo Dielis (40-23 in 25), Jean Christoph Roux defeated Jef Gysels 40-25 in 29.

Agipi has already qualified for the semifinals with three match points out of two matches. Andernos and BC Deurne will decide tomorrow which team will be the second in the group.
