Dick Jaspers flaunted with a run of 22 in his opening match in Viersen.

VIERSEN - The Swedish team, multiple World champion in Viersen, has started its new mission with a loss against Ecuador. Both Torbjörn Blomdahl and Michael Nilsson failed in the first group match. Dick Jaspers sparkled for Netherlands A with a run of 22 at the start of the second day.

The Dutch team started with a victory: Belgian B-team was defeated 4-0, although Raimond Burgman needed a spectacular come-back to beat Francis Forton one carom ahead.

Dick Jaspers flaunted in Orange's opening match with a 22 run in the third inning against Belgian Frederic Mottet (25-0). The former world champion finished in 7 innings 30-10. The most remarkable of the high run was the ease with which Jaspers scored from the 14th carom: each point was played on position and every carom was a round the table shot.

Raimond Burgman trailed a big gap against Francis Forton at the other table (21-6), but showed the mettle of a lion when he fought back at the end of the match. In the 24th inning, he was only four points behind, after some misses Burgman finished in the 30th inning 30-29.

That victory is very important in view of the second group match against Japan: that team won 4-0 as well against Belgium B.

The big sensation this morning was the loss of the multiple champion Sweden with Torbjörn Blomdahl and Michael Nilsson. The laureled formation lost 4-0 vs. Ecuador. Javier Teran knocked down Blomdahl 30-21, the old master Jorge Rubio won 30-25 against Michael Nilsson.
