Tayfun Tasdemir on his way to the win in the Turkish match against Cenet.

SCHILTIGHEIM - The victory in the match (Tasdemir-Cenet, 50-35 in 31) was really just a formality. The always friendly, smiling Tayfun looked tired, disappointed and could not hide his sadness after the bad start in the tournament.

Just to remember: Lütfi Cenet lost against Jae Ho Cho and Tayfun Tasdemir was overpowered by Marco Zanetti. ,,The Turkish billiard audience had high expectations, but we could not put up a fight. This is dissapointing for all of us’’, Tayfun grieved.

The two Turks were among the heavyweights in the last heat of qualification. The form is still there, for sure, I just could not fight,'' said Tasdemir, looking back to his first day. ,,I felt like I was somewhere in Turkey and not here.''

Two defeats in this first round directed the Turkish stars from the preliminaries to the losers round, in which they faced today.

Tasdemir was a little better than in his battle with Zanetti, Cenet could not impress again. The fighting spirit was not there, it seemed that they played their match on autopilot.

It turned out in a match that could not grip the audience. Tasdemir finally pulled the trigger with a 9-run in the 24th innings (43-27). Six innings later he slipped through the finish line.

Tomorrow (Saturday) plays Tasdemir for the 5th and 6th place, Cenet for the 7th and 8th place.
