Tayfun Tasdemir was extremely strong in his match against Frédéric Caudron

HURGHADA - Frédéric Caudron is just a human being, an absolute world class player in three cushion, occasionally with his minor days. The Belgian said farewell to a gorgeous victory race in the World Cup semifinals in Hurghada, after being unbeaten for fourteen matches in the World championship in Antwerp, the World Cup in Medellin and this World Cup in Hurghada.

The very amiable Turk Tayfun Tasdemir, the number twelve at the world ranking, made an end to the fantastic race. That means there is no Belgian final in Egypt: Eddy Merckx, who defeated Korean Sung-Won Choi, faces the extremely strong Tasdemir.

Frédéric Caudron resigned to his loss and said: ,,I could not do very much, because my opponent scored a lot and played a good defense.''

Tayfun Tasdemir, very happy in his heart, but always modestly: ,,You need the best out of yourself to beat the world's best. My feeling was perfect and I felt an incredible focus from the start.''

The Belgian replied at the start an early attack of his opponent with nine: it was immediately responded by Caudron with a nine. But at the moment of truth, in the part of the match that was decisive, Tasdemir took the control and was unstoppable for Caudron: 40-17 in 16 innings.

Eddy Merckx had a lightning start in his match against Sung-Won Choi and a strong finish. In between, he had a hick-up in the score, because he was bothered by the cold in the room. ,,The air conditioning suddenly blew very cold air into the room'', he explained after the match. ,,I could hardly score for half an hour.''

At the end he restored with small, effective runs and quickly ran out to a large margin. That eventually resulted in a win 40-30 in 25 innings.

Tayfun Tasdemir never won a World Cup final. He was in the semifinals last year Antalya, when he lost to Sung-Won Choi.

Eddy Merckx won four World Cup finals, in Hooglede 1997, in Barendrecht 2005, Matosinhos 2009 and Trabzon 2011. He was twice in a semifinal since the end of 2011: in Antalya and Seoul.

The final is at 15.00 Egyptian time.
