MELK/OSTRAVA - The European billiard federation CEB, in cooperation with the organisers in Austria and Czech Republic, has decided to allow the ladies' European free game championship (Melk, 23-25 April) and the Euro Youth tournament (Ostrava, Czech Republic 5-8 August) to take place under the strict conditions required by COVID-19. Ladies for the free game championship can register from 19 February. Due to the earlier postponement, the CEB has decided to allow participation in Euro Youth to all youth players who, by virtue of their age, were entitled to participate on the previously scheduled date (2-5 April 2021). Those championships will be held, among others, in the disciplines free game, 5 pins under under 21, three cushion under 21 and under 17.

The Austrian city of Melk, with just over 5.500 inhabitants, is located on the Danube and is known, among other things, for its wonderful castles. There, the new season starts for the European Federation with the Ladies' Free game Championship, the discipline in which French lady Magali Declunder is twelve times champion. The championship was last played in Brandenburg in 2019.

Documents on hygiene, COVID information and other useful and important advice will be sent to participants by the organising federation and are on the CEB website. Federations are further informed that exceptionally, due to the expected warm weather (summer), a specific new dress code with polo shirts will be issued soon.

The European One Cushion Championship (Paiporta, 16 to 18 April) has been postponed at the request of the Spanish Federation: a new date or cancellation will be decided later.

The Coupe d'Europe for classic teams (Douarnenez, 25-28 March) has been cancelled at the request of the French federation and will be rescheduled for next season.

The European Women's three cushion Championship, which was to be played in Halle-Zoersel, Belgium from 7-9 May 2021, has been postponed by the Belgian federation. It will be decided later whether the championship will be cancelled or rescheduled.

The 'not mentioned' competitions are still on the CEB calendar for the moment (Coupe d'Europe 3 cushion, for example).

The European Federation has not decided yet about the European Championships three cushion individual, which is on the calendar in The Netherlands (Berlicum) from 8 till 12 June. The Dutch organizer Harry Mathijssen is looking forward to the moment that the tournament is allowed to take place. ''We'll have to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks and months around the COVID virus, but in the Netherlands, other events will also take place. Of course, we are dependent on players coming from other countries. But my expectation is that we will play a European Championship this summer.''
