CEB president Diane Wild: no European three cushion in 2020, more news from CEB coming up soon.

LAUSANNE/BERLICUM - The Dutch billiards federation KNBB has decided, after consulting with the European federation CEB, to definitely remove the European championship three-cushion for men from the 2020 calendar. The measure was taken after the press conference of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who announced that all events until September 1 are forbidden due to COVID 19. The championship with the top European players was scheduled from June 30 to July 4 in the Benelux theater in Berlicum, Netherlands.

The decision was taken by the KNBB (Dutch) board after the press conference of Prime Minister Rutte. The federation also announced that the Dutch cup final for teams, scheduled for June 25-28, is cancelled.

European president Diane Wild in a short comment: ''Unfortunately, regarding the pandemic situation, the EC in July is cancelled. More information from CEB will follow soon.''

Harry Mathijssen, organizer with Ad Smout in Berlicum: ''We were very delighted to organize this wonderful event together. But the health of players, referees and the public are much more important.'' KNBB chairman Garmt Kolhorn: "We were all looking forward to this great championship within our borders. However, given the severity of the Corona crisis, there was no other option than cancel the event.''

The KNBB is also organizer of the World Championship three cushion for ladies (September 22-24) and juniors (September 25-27). The 'BEN organization' is also the organizer of the World Cup in Veghel from 25-31 October. Harry Mathijssen: "For now  of course we look forward to any new plans for this year and next year."
