Final field and knockout for Superprestige

LOMMEL - The final field for the Superprestige in Lommel is known. Eddy Leppens and Peter Ceulemans advanced on Thursday night as the last two players for the last eight. At the end of the night the schedule was announced for the quarterfinals. Frédéric Caudron, Eddy Merckx, Eddy Leppens and Marco Janssen remained unbeaten in the group stage. The best average was played by Caudron 2.105, followed by Merckx 1.791, Spoormans 1.750 and Van Acker 1.742.

Peter Ceulemans and Steven van Acker finished with four match points, Martin Spoormans and Jef Philipoom with three. Most surprising was the elimination of Roland Forthomme in the group with Caudron and Spoormans.

Eddy Leppens and Peter Ceulemans had no problems at all to qualify in the last group. Both players couldn't show a great form so far, but were a way too strong for Henk Blauwblomme and Marc Dellaert.

The mutual match between Leppens and Ceulemans decided who won the group. The contest was in balance from the start (11-11, 20-19, 34-31) and ended in a narrow win for Leppens 40-39 in 35 innings.
