Eddy Merckx playing with Belgium A to qualify for the final rounds

VIERSEN - The last two qualification rounds at the World championship for national teams in Viersen have to point out the last four places for the quarterfinals. Korea A, Turkey, Belgium A and Germany A have one last mission to join the best eight teams at the championship.

Netherlands, Spain, Denmark and Korea B have already qualified on the second day. The Danes did so with two wins in their group, a 8-0 score in four matches and 1.523 overall average for Tonny Carlsen Zola and Brian Hansen.

In the double with Greece and Spain, Dani Sánchez and Ruben Legázpi were the winners on average: 1.490 for Spain, 1.321 for Greece. Korea B topped the group with Sweden and Austria with a 6-2 score in match points. The record title holder, Sweden, closed the group stage with 1.476, the Koreans with 1.540.

Dick Jaspers and Barry van Beers finished on top with the Netherlands in the group of death with the same match points as Belgium B and France (4-4), but with the better average. Netherlands 1.698, Belgium 1.557, France 1.290.

This morning (Saturday, 11.00) Korea A (against Egypt), Turkey (against Czech Republic), Belgium A (at 13.30 against Portugal) and Germany A (against Italy) vie for the last group wins. Most interesting match: Martin Horn against Marco Zanetti.

The quarter-finals start off at 16.30, after the ranking is made of the eight teams. The number one meets the eight, the second faces the seventh and so on. With that restriction, that Korea A (when they qualify) first meet Korean B according to the rules.
