DEER - The eight finalists for the German three cushion Masters are known and kick off for the quarterfinals this afternoon. Martin Horn was one of four group winners, despite a loss in his last match. Stefan Galla and Markus Schönhoff were the only two players with the maximum group win. Two-time winner Horn finished with the highest average over three group matches (1.513), shone with a run of sixteen in his first match against Orhan Eroğul, but ended the group phase not so well Murat Gökmen, who defeated the main favourite 40-35 in 32 innings.
Dustin Jäschke went to the next round together with Horn: the young guy only lost to Horn (40-32 in 23) and was second with victories vs Gökmen (40-24 in 25) and Eroğul (40-37 in 39). Stefan Galla and Markus Schönhoff yielded excellent results with the maximum wins in the preliminaries. Galla bested Dieter Grossjung (40-28 in 44), Cengis Karaca (40-19 in 20) and Thorsten Frings (40-29 in 28). The battle for the second place in the group was a neck-to-neck race: three players finished with two match points, Frings had the highest average: 1.018 versus Grossjung 0.869 and Karaca 0.822.
Frings played a real thriller in the preliminary rounds: he lost to Karanca 40-39 and won against Grossjung 40-39.
Markus Schönhoff was one of the start in the qualification rounds with the overall victory in Group C, in which he beat Ronny Lindemann, Christos Christodoulidis and Stefan Hetzel. The best match Schönhoff played against Lidemann, 40-36 in 25 innings. In his last match, the group winner had a better final rush against Stefan Hetzel (40-38 in 37).
Marcel Decker, the substitute for Christian Rudolph, surprised with the group win. He started with a victory vs Johann Schirmbrand (40-18 in 30), continued with a draw against Andreas Niehaus (40-40 in 48) and won his last match vs Norbert Roestel 40-32 in 29.
Schirmbrand recovered excellently after his poor start: he won his next two matches in 23 innings and advanced as the number two in the group.
Stefan Galla will play against Ronny Lindemann in the quarters.
